Dear Class of 2018,

We invite you to apply to join the staff of the Chicago Journal of International Law, The University of Chicago Law Review, and The University of Chicago Legal Forum. Participation in the Writing Competition is the primary means of joining a journal's staff. Even if you hope to grade on to the Law Review, you must participate in the Writing Competition and submit an entry that reflects a good-faith effort.

In order to participate in this year's Writing Competition, you must submit the online registration form by Thursday, May 26, at 5:00 PM. The form is available at: http://www.law.uchicago.edu/studentorgs/lawreview/writing. The form requires that you log on using your CNET ID. It will take fewer than two minutes to complete. After submitting the form, you will receive a confirmation via e-mail. If you're interested in the Writing Competition, we suggest you fill out this form immediately as signing up does not bind you to complete the competition. However, every year students are unable to participate because they do not complete the form on time.

After submitting this form, you will receive a PDF copy of the Writing Competition instructions on Monday, June 6th. You will then receive the rest of the Writing Competition packet by 9:00 a.m. CDT on Tuesday, June 7th. The Writing Competition will be due on Sunday, June 19th at 9:00 p.m. CDT.

If you plan to participate in the Writing Competition, you should also be sure to register to extend your Westlaw access into the summer, which can be done at http://lawschool.westlaw.com/registration/summerextension.aspx. Lexis access is automatically extended into the summer. Please contact the Westlaw or Lexis representatives if you have any questions about the summer registration process.

After you register to participate in the competition, you will have no additional responsibilities until you receive the packet. The packet will contain a complete set of rules, as well as instructions for submitting your entries and indicating the journals to which you wish to apply.

Lastly, please remember that you must refrain from discussing the Writing Competition with current journal members. The instructions released on June 6th will explain how to anonymously ask questions about the Writing Competition. However, please note that questions will not be accepted until the entire packet is distributed on June 7th.

Thank you for participating in the competition. We look forward to reading your entries.

Good Luck!
